| Local government is thinking about the inclusion of costs related to changing gender in the list of free medical services. Now, if I am struck to the heart with a case of prostatitis, I will simply exchange a donated vagina for the sick penis. It is, truly, a danger that the donor could turn out to be some African porn-star. How then would one go to the banya? No biggie ... just don't get sick. | ||||

I can go to the Russian bath without trousers and soap, without a bath attendant and a nice girl, but to go to the bath without a bunch of birch switches, I cannot. Today was one of the most black days – I steamed with maple switches. But what can you expect from a country, on whose flag is only one detail – the leaf of a weed tree.
The maple switch is heavy, holds too much moisture and doesn’t have a scent. The big leaves smack the body limply, not exactly giving the expected and time-honored, tried-and-true blows. To swing them is hard, but even increasing the effort doesn’t produce accurate and resonant blows, which can be received from birch. To swat with wet bath towels would probably be just as effective as sweltering with maple switches. Eucalyptus or oak switches, each in its own way, are better than maple. But all the same, maple possesses a place in life – since to go to the steam room openly armed with a couple of wet towels wouldn’t be very manly. In general, maple switches are a pitiful Russian-Canadian example of the symbiosis of two cultures. And to state the facts, the only thing worse is felt boots in the wet Canadian winter. | ||||
